Our Compassion DTS outreach team to Rwanda will have the opportunity to help bring awareness to an injustice where young hospital patients are held until their bill is paid in full. After treatment is completed the child is not released until family or friends guarantee full payment. This practice is common is certain African nations. In many cases it involves less than a few hundred dollars, but due to extreme poverty families are unable to come up with the needed funds.
We are planning a documentary film about “hospital prisoners” stuck in a type of debtors bondage. We intend to use this film to rally support to help free them and to fight this kind of injustice, which is seen as normal in hospitals in Burundi. This project is slower than expected because it is very sensitive and the government doesn’t want this to be exposed. We have been told this from a friend from Burundi who is trying to facilitate this project. Please pray for God’s guidance as we work on this documentary, since there is a lot of corruption in this nation.
We need your prayers so that the door will be open in a right way. That this will be done in a safe and fruitful way. We welcome you to join us in support of these prisoners, who are not released until their hospital bills are paid. We paid to secure the release of two children, and we hope more people will contribute to help pay the hospital debt of others. Pray also that the government will find a solution for the hospital prisoners dilemma.
$50 to $200 can set one child free from Hospital debt bondage. Thank you for your contribution. 100% of your donation will go to free children. Tax deductible donations via YWAM University of the Nations, Kona.
